May: Ayame Blossom

May: Ayame Blossom

The traditional Japanese flower for the month of May is the Ayame blossom (Iris). While Ayame blossoms come in many colors, it is those of a blue hue that are most frequently associated with May. We have created a blossom of lavender and blue satin with gold satin petals at its throat. Our May piece is mounted on an alligator clip.

The Ayame blossoms play a major role in the Japanese spring festival for boys. These stately, regal blossoms symbolize heroism, heraldry and royalty. Heroism takes many forms. It can be a knee jerk reaction in the face of great danger that saves another. It can be overcoming great obstacles and persevering despite them. But it can also be a quiet series of good choices, made with others in mind, that create a ripple that touches the lives of others, giving them a sense of safety and security.

It is that quiet heroism that came to mind as I created the May piece, the heroism of my mother who left the religion and the homeland of her youth. My whole life she worked hard and demanded so much of herself for her children’s benefit. Our May piece captures the beauty of those people in our lives whose quiet choices made our lives better. We present to you this Hair Flower Designs accessory to celebrate the beauty of the everyday heroes in your life.

This is a limited edition hair accessory and it will only be available through the month of May.
